Briogeo Curl Charisma Gel First Use Hair of the Day

Today's hair of the day features 99% Briogeo products! I've been such a fan of this cruelty-free brand for a few years now and have been wanting to try one of their newer products, the Curl Charisma Gel since it debuted a couple months ago. Read on for more!

All Briogeo products are free of sulfates, parabens, phthalates, silicones, DEA and artificial dyes. Every single product also contains their exclusive "“NOVA Complex,” (Natural Oils, Vitamins, and Antioxidants) derived from the highest-quality fruit and vegetable butters, oils and extracts to deliver pure and potent hair-essential nutrients, naturally."

With today's hair of the day, I have used all of the other Briogeo products plenty of times before, except for the gel. I got a mini size of the gel free with a Sephora order using promo code "curlgel"

Here is what I used:
  • Pre-Shampoo Treatment: mix of Tweak-d Restore and Peaches Self Cleansing Treatment
  • Cleanser: Briogeo Curl Charisma Rice Amino + Shea Shampoo
  • Conditioner: Briogeo Don't Despair, Repair Masque
  • Styling: Briogeo Curl Charisma Rice Amino + Shea Conditioner (used as a leave in since I currently don't have their actual leave in in my stash right now), Briogeo Curl Charisma Rice Amino + Quinoa Curl Control Gel, Briogeo Rosarco Oil

I left the mask in my hair about 40 minutes before rinsing out. I applied the conditioner as a leave in while still in the shower on soaking wet hair. Then I applied the rest of the styling products section by section (note I do NOT towel dry my hair at all before doing this) raking them through and scrunching at the end. I then plopped with the Curl Ease towel while doing my skin care and body care regimen. My hair air dried and I did not clip my hairline back, but did very loosely two strand twist my left side since it was acting up a bit.

All of the Briogeo products have the same, delicious, fruity, fresh, addicting scent!! I would love to see them come out with an alcohol free Hair Perfume that smells like this so I can keep spraying myself during the day. Or a candle (note: the candle would not be used on hair. Wanted to clarify that JUST IN CASE you thought I was crazy.)

Since I mentioned I used the other Briogeo products before, here's a quick cliff notes review of them:
If you are in the market for a sulfate free shampoo, but really like lather, the Curl Charisma Shampoo lathers like crazy and not leave the hair looking stiff or squeaky, but rather nicely moisturized!

The Don't Despair, Repair Masque has been a favorite of mine for so long now. It never disappoints in leaving my hair feeling soft and looking shiny.

The Curl Charisma Conditioner makes curls POP! It adds incredible definition and moisture to any kind of texture.

The Rosarco Oil contains Rose Hip, Argan and Coconut Oils and is a light weight oil to provide shine and frizz reduction, without weighing the hair down.

Now about the Curl Charisma Rice Amino + Quinoa Curl Control Gel. Here's what Briogeo.com says:

"What it is: A light-to-medium hold, defining, frizz-control gel.
Who it's for: Those with wavy, curly, and coily hair textures.
What it does: Curl Charisma™ provides light to medium hold for long-lasting, natural-looking definition with superior movement, shine, and softness. Rice amino acids and tomato fruit ferment smooth and seal the hair cuticle to lock out frizz-causing environmental moisture and promote consistent curl formation. Quinoa extract and keratin amino acids strengthen strands and increase elasticity to protect against damage. The formula is very lightweight and will not cause stiff or sticky after effects."

I used about a dime size amount of gel per section as I styled. I wound up using almost the whole entire sample tube for my high porosity hair. This gel left my hair with absolutely no crunch, stiffness and stickiness whatsoever. I notice my waves were drying more on the type 3A side than 2C, which always excites me, they definitely have bounce.  I also felt my hair air dried a bit quicker than usual. As it was air drying, I did notice a more frizz than I wanted to see, so mid drying I went in with 2 more pumps of the Rosarco Oil. It also was drying a bit "fluffier" than I prefer it to. As it continued to dry, I went in with more Rosarco Oil to try to stop it from expanding and part of me feels perhaps I shouldn't have done that. I just really don't like when my hair is large. Someone recently left me a rude comment saying my hair is always flat at top (they didn't work it nicely, thus comment not approved.) but I prefer my hair to have more sleek curls as opposed to being large on top and all over. I don't like that on me.

So back to the Curl Charisma Gel review. My hair generally likes firm or ultra hold gels moreso than light to medium hold, which is what this gel is. It gave me nice definition and shine, but I think overall I do prefer a gel that is stronger. Unless I use more per section if I wind up with another bottle to try again? Because of the very light hold and non stiffness, I think this product may be a contender for second or third day hair to add in shine and calm frizz for me. I would love to see Briogeo do a Firm Hold Curl Gel! If you general prefer a lighter hold gel, the ingredient sin this are stellar and there are quite a few good qualities so you just might wind up loving it.
If you haven't tried any Briogeo at all, definitely add them to your hair wishlist. The Don't Despair, Repair Masque and Rosarco Oils are must trys at least once in your life!
