Hair of the Day and Life Updates

I was not the best blogger in the month of May. A lot of stuff went on- some good, some bad..sometimes life happens. Nonetheless, here I am with a long overdue "Hair of the Day" post with some little life updates!

I've been working through my product junkie stash and have been using quite a bit up. I actually see the bottom of some of my hair product shelves! LOL Since I tested and reviewed a lot of products the past year or so, it's nice revisiting some of them, plus mixing and matching. Of course I also have my holy grails, that I will forever repurchase even while on a no buy. I'm hoping to do a current favorite type post so far by the end of June.
Here is what I used for this Day 1 Hair of the Day:
  • Cleanser: CurlSmith Curl Quenching Conditioning Wash
  • Conditioner: Briogeo Don't Despair, Repair Masque
  • Stylers (wet): DevaCurl One Condition Decadence (left in), Raw Curls Anti Frizz Spray and Firm Hold Gel, Jane Carter Solutions Curls to Go Shine On Elixir
  • Stylers (dry): DevaCurl Set It Free

I applied styling products section by section, raking them through wet hair and then scrunching in. I used my curl ease towel to twist it up out of my face while I do my skincare. Truthfully, I didn't plop- I realized how i get my hair off my hair to dry for some reason doesn't effect the curl pattern, as long as I use the right kind of towel. I air dried and was out in my yard letting the sun help that process. Yay warm weather!

The CurlSmith Curl Quenching Conditioning Wash is Holy Grail status. The whole line was really good but this may be the best co-wash I've ever tried. Other than the amazing unique, yummy scent- it leaves my hair so incredibly moisturized, there have been times I was able to skip conditioner after which is unheard of for me. I love all the quality ingredients inside, too.

Briogeo Don't Despair, Repair Masque is a product I refuse to ever not have in my stash. Perfect mix of protein and moisture and my hair loves, loves, loves it. The healing ingredients inside gives bounce back to my curls.

DevaCurl One Condition Decadence is so super moisturizing for my uber dry hair. Raw Curls Anti-Frizz Spray is another Holy Grail, especially as humidity creeps up and I love that the Firm Hold Gel really holds my hair for days without being stiff or crunchy.

The Jane Carter Solutions Shine On Curl Elixir is my favorite product from that line that I tried. Aside from smelling deliciously fruity, it's a wonderful oil blend that adds shine without weighing my hair down or being too oily. Plus, I love that it is in a spray nozzle.

I like using DevaCurl Set It Free once my hair is all dry. It adds a bit more shine and moisture, and helps any frizz and poufiness that sometimes happens in humidity when I air dry my hair outside.

I am in desperate need of a trim. It's been 5 months already! My hair is shedding more and acting a bit more unruly than usual, which is how I usually know it's trim time. I'll be getting that done in June. I'm actually going to Devachan Salon for my trim!!! I'm super nervous because it is somewhere new, but I loved how they styled my hair when I went for the Buildup Buster treatment and am very curious about a Deva Cut.

The first three pictures were taken while my hair was still a bit wet.

I thought the sun made this picture below look kind of cool.

As usual no edits or anything because I can't be bothered. Just different lighting outside. No flash was used. Cute dachshund shit from beangoods.com. Lipstick is "Island Hop" crayon by Wander Beauty over Mally Beauty Lipstick in "Tulip"

A few life updates and stuff...
  • Tommie and I booked our wedding venue and set our date! Fall 2018. I'm beyond excited and overwhelmed every time I try and begin to attempt planning. This should be a fun journey.
  • Part of me missing in May is my Fibromyalgia and depression flared up very badly. I'll spare the details. It sucks, but it is what it is.
  • I have a few more articles going up, but due to "creative differences" I will no longer be contributing for naturallycurly.com But don't worry, you can always find me here!
  • Speaking of, and while I am keeping it real, I got very bothered by people in the "curl community" last month (April or May? I don't remember) I'm part of quite a few Facebook Curl Groups. Some of them I don't participate in as much as others . Well in one group, I was lurking on a thread and found people bashing me. In general, I try to be a super kind and nice person, and I'm also extremely EXTREMELY sensitive, and I took this to heart. They were saying very cruel things about my appearance and my hair. It's sad, because these people don't know me. Saying I shouldn't be a hair blogger and how terrible my hair is, etc, etc. It was really mean. The thing is, I KNOW my hair kind of sucks. If I had perfect hair, styling it every day would be easy and so simple. I blog since I struggle so much with frizzy, imperfect, hard to manage hair and thought it would be a nice way for me to keep track of what I use, what works, what doesn't and to share with others. I know I shouldn't let people's comments get to me that bad, but truth be told, I have quite low self esteem, I'm sensitive and they really did. This explains why I didn't even post as many selfies or hair posts. I'm trying to get over it and get back into things. And no, these ladies did not have perfect hair based on their instagram pictures. What hurt more is I saw people who called themselves my online friends on this thread, and they couldn't even bother sticking up for me.
  •  I also sadly got layed off from my day job. I'm super bummed by this, and it didn't help my depression. I was told not to take it personal and it was not a reflection of me or my hard work, but the company had to budget and "dissolved my position" as they felt I was not truly needed. I just can't help but take it personal. I finally thought my career was launching off. Aside from needing money (I am NOT one of those bloggers who gets money or stuff for blogging, unfortunately.) I really liked the position and it was with my degree in the industry I wanted to be in.

That is it for now. I'll try to blog more consistently again.

  1. I'm sorry to hear about your difficult month, Diane. I'm especially sorry that people were saying nasty things about you. That's so uncalled for and rude.

I love your curls and it makes me sad to think anyone made you feel bad about them and made you feel say your hair kinda sucks. Those people can go F themselves.

I hope June is much better for you and that you soon find a job you love.

  2. Girl! Don't even let those keyboard bullies get you down. I found your page from the qvc addicts page and you have great reviews. I have straight fine hair and I think your hair is so pretty. I always wanted curls but I had no idea how much work goes into it. :P Keep on just doing you!

  4. Diane, people hate on others because they are WEAK! They have NOTHING going on in their own crappy lives and it's oh so easy to hide behind a keyboard. Please don't give their words power over you. I know without a doubt they are jealous, sad and probably ugly too
