Hair and Makeup Details for a "Fancy" Event (Hair of the Day)

I've been slacking on my "Hair of the Day" posts and I do apologize. The end of September has been unusually busy for me. Over the weekend I had a "fancy" event to go to: one of my brother's and sister-in-law's Silver Anniversary Party! (my brothers are all quite older than I am) I didn't have money to splurge on getting my hair done so I had to do it myself and prayed to the hair gods it would come out decent. Read on for more.

The party was so much fun!!!! Part of the reason I've been busy is I have a lot of family that flew in from different states for the party and I've been enjoying spending time with them! =)

HAIR
By now I pretty much have my routine for hair that is nearly guaranteed to look at least decent, if not better. My curly wavy hair is so unpredictable. I also faced an extra challenge in that it was 90 degrees and quite humid. But hey, I'll take this Summer-like Autumn weather any day of the year.

I went with some of my all time favorite brands, DevaCurl, Briogeo and Raw Curls for styling. The event started at 6:00pm, an hour away. I wanted my hair to fully air dry since I am still getting the nack of diffusing and I woke my butt up extra early just to allow time for this. Even giving myself extra hours, my roots were still wet and I had to diffuse. Sigh.

Anyway, here is what I used:
  • Pre-Poo: Briogeo Don't Despair, Repair Gel-To-Oil Overnight Repair Treatment (applied the night before)
  • Cleanser: DevaCurl Buildup Buster
  • Conditioner: DevaCurl Melt Into Moisture and Deep Sea Repair masks mixed with ThermalCare Hot Head for head- Left in a half hour before rinsing
  • Stylers (wet): DevaCurl Heaven In Hair (as a leave in), Raw Curls Anti-Frizz Spray, DevaCurl B'Leave In, ArcAngel Gel, Mirror Curls, Flexible Hold Hairspray
  • Stylers (dry- pre diffusing): Briogeo Rosarco Blow Dry Heat Protectant Creme
  • Stylers (dry- post diffusing): more DevaCurl Mirrorcurls mixed with SuperCream (front only), Beautiful Mess, more DevaCurl Flexible Hold Hairspray (all over)
The Briogeo overnight treatment is so so good. I use it about once a month at the moment since I don't have much left and really need a job :( It provides extra moisture and hydration, and also really helps with breakage! I have a big Briogeo wishlist for Black Friday Sale this year.

It's been about a month since I clarified my hair, I kept pushing it off knowing I wanted to clarify for this day. It was worth waiting. Buildup Buster gives extra bounce and shine to my curls and is a great way for me to remove extra product residue. If you've been following my blog and social media regularly, I don't think I need to tell you above my love for the new DevaCurl masks. ;)

After the shower, I applied products as usual onto soaking wet hair one by one, scrunching them in with my hair flipped upside down in the shower.  After applying all the products, I scrunched a ton again. I wrapped my hair in my Curl Ease towel while doing all my skin care stuff, removed the towel, then applied a little more ArcAngel and MirrorCurls mixed together and scrunched a whole lot more. I then air dried for hours before diffusing. If you missed it, see my video on my product application HERE, but in this blog post I did use additional product for my hair to hold up and look extra nice.

I used the addition of the Raw Curls Anti-Frizz Spray on wet hair just for an added layer of frizz protection with the humidity. I'll use this product way more regularly when I know I can buy it on a normal basis.

I attempted the DevaCurl clips to lift my roots just a bit on wet hair. See here:
Before diffusing my roots, I used Briogeo Rosarco Blow Dry Heat Protectant Creme. This is my all time favorite heat protectant since it is silicone free! Plus it is Briogeo so the creme is infused with good for the hair ingredients such as Rosarco- rosehip, argan and coconut oils.

I used the DevaCurl DevaFuser. I love the shape of the hand. It's funny, I actually used Ulta points to get the expensive Dyson Dryer for free at Ulta, but I haven't been able to get away from my DevaFuser when I need to diffuse. Once I was all done diffusing, my front/hairline pieces were still looking a bit frizzy and dry. I honestly don't know what is up with them!!! I just had a trim and added extra mask and leave in. They're so stubborn. Anyway, I went in with more MirrorCurls mixed with SuperCream to try and hydrate. After 20 minutes, they still were being frizzy so I tried using some DevaCurl Beautiful Mess pomade. This helped a lot more to control them. I followed with more hairspray all over for good measure.

Pictures in my yard before the event:
we used 2 different cameras so lighting is a bit different in some. no clue why.

 At and around the venue:

I am happy with how my hair turned out! It was shiny, defined and almost frizz free. I think I need to accept my hair will never be 100% free of frizz in warmer temperatures. My hair also lasted through the night, even through dancing and sweating!

the dress I have on is from Lilly Pulitzer. I got it on sale not too long ago. I'm actually wearing it backwards because I like the V-neck better than the boat neck, but I think it's so cool I have the option to wear it either way!

MAKEUP
  • Foundation: Doll 10 Beauty HydraLux Foundation- mix of FAIR and LIGHT
    •  I seriously love this foundation SO MUCH! The buildable coverage, how it looks like skin and the ingredients inside. I've been wearing it almost every day since I got it and even when I wash my face, my crow's feet look like they are starting to lessen! I can't say enough about this stuff.
  • Concealers: Doll 10 Beauty HydraBalm Concealer in LIGHT on top of Mally Beauty Undereye Corrector (forgot to include this in picture)
  • Powder: It Cosmetics Bye Bye Pores Powder
  • Blush: Westmore Beauty Dual Blush in SPOTLIGHT PINK
  • Contour: Tarte Cosmetics The Sculptor Contour Stick
  • Mascara: Laura Geller Lash Boss Mascara
  • Liner: Wander Beauty Slide Gel Eyeliner in  Black Sand (upper waterline), Secret Weapon Pencil (lower waterline)
  • Eyeshadows: mix of Too Faced "I Want Kandee" Palette and It Cosmetics SuperHero Palette
  • Brows: Wander Beauty Brow Pencil in BLONDE
  • Lipsticks: Kat Von D Glimmer Veil in SHOCKFUL with an old Buxom Lip Gloss on top

DAY 2
After sleeping with my hair pineappled on my Satin Pillowcase, I needed to do so little touch ups to day 2 hair. I just sprayed a little DevaCurl Mister Right, scrunched and I was good to go! I didn't use dry shampoo since Sundays are my rest days most weeks.

I wanted to take more pictures but was busy with family and then wound up passing out and taking a long nap at my grandma's house. Ooops!

The lip color is "tulip" by Mally Beauty

I could have lasted to Day 3 but since I have plans tomorrow and wanted my hair to look better, I decided to wash again.

I will be working on doing better days 1, 2, 3 and 4 etc wash cycle posts again! I'm sorry for those of you who are missing them right now.
