Revisiting Up North Naturals 8 Oil Hair Gelly

The term "Everyone deserves a second chance" should also apply to hair products. I recently revisited a hair gel I didn't love last time I used it and well, my results were different and now I really like it! There are several factors that can contribute to this which I will get into. Read on for more.
Back in February I  gave a review of almost the whole Up North Naturals line. If you'd like, you can see it here. I really loved most of the products, and I also love their FreshenUp Mist which was released a few months after.
When I did my initial review, I liked the 8 Oil Hair Gelly on days old hair, but wasn't crazy about it on wet hair, as I stated. Yesterday, I had an unexpected extra wash day in my week from miscalculating my schedule and I was staring at the jar on my shelf. I said to myself, let me give this another shot since I really did like all the other products so much. Hair gels and the sorts my hair is SUPER picky about, so I only really stray from my Holy Grail gel to try out others when I have an extra wash day or on a weekday wash.

To really test out this product's performance, I used all other products I'm very familiar with so I can pinpoint it.

Here is everything I used:
  • Cleanser: DevaCurl No Poo Decadence
  • Conditioner: DevaCurl One Condition Original mixed with Belle Bar Waikiki Mask
  • Stylers: DevaCurl Heaven In Hair, Up North Naturals 8 Oil Hair Gelly, Pure Argan Oil

I styled my hair as usual, with my head flipped upside down and applying the stylers one by one scrunching them in. I then wrapped my hair in my Curl Ease towel while doing my skin care regimen and air dried.

Truthfully, at first I panicked because once I put the Gelly on top of the Heave in Hair, little white product balls looked like they were forming. As my hair dried, they completely disappeared. My hair air dried a bit crunchy but the crunch scrunched out super easily. My hair also air dried in HALF the amount of time it usually takes!!!! I wasn't expecting that and it was a nice surprise! Once all dry, I had nicely defined, bouncy curly waves that felt soft and had very minimal frizz.

As mentioned earlier, several things could have made a difference in how this product performed on wet hair now vs. in February. Here are a few possibilities:
  • Weather was super cold then, it is hot and humid now
  • Maybe pairing with the rest of the line was a bit too much for my hair
  • I could have used too much product then, although if I recall correctly I was pretty light handed with it.

Regardless of why, I'm so glad I gave this product a second shot and had great results now! The Gelly has fantastic ingredients inside including Aloe Vera Juice, Coconut oil, Avacado oil, Grapeseed oil, Jojoba oil, Lavender, Rosemary, Sandalwood essential oils and Vitamin E oil! I loved the oil blend with the same oils inside from the brand so much I used it up so fast. I am planning on picking up another bottle around Black Friday when I temporarily lift my hair product no-buy rule.

The one thing I will say, is I noticed when I woke up today Day 2 hair is a tad bit frizzier than usual, but the definition is still there and my hair is oh so soft. This is nothing a little refreshing spray, like the brand's FreshenUP Mist, can't fix!
