Curl Keeper Hair Products and Tools Review

I recently have been playing with the products from Curl Keeper. The Original Serum is a curly girl favorite, and a product I used years ago and remember loving. I was excited to try other products in the line! Read on for more of my thoughts.

Here is some information about the line from the company:
"Curl Keeper® is a series of products that will perform 100% of the time, on every curly head, in all weather conditions, without the use of silicones. Our Styling products can be mixed together to achieve specific results. Because no two curls are the same, it takes a variety of products to consistently achieve perfect hairstyles. You will achieve ultimate frizz control, style support and unmatched shine. Curl Keeper® Styling products never build up and rinse out clean."

H20 Water Bottle
Them: "A must have accessory for all curlies and stylists alike. This refillable ultra-fine and continual spray bottle covers large areas of hair to be covered quickly and easily. Styling has never been this easy. The mist will rehydrate dull curls, shape, moisturize and stretch your hair without soaking or re-wetting the entire head"

Me: This water bottle is great! I love the steady flow stream and how it coats all of my hair evenly without dispersing too much at once. I actually have my hair tea rinse in the bottle  and like used it to apply the rinse evenly on my hair and scalp without making a mess each week. I want to get a second bottle soon to keep my refreshing spray in since I really like the fine mist it produces.

Flexy Brush
Them: "Best detangling brush on wet or dry curl textures. Great for kids, built strong, durable, lightweight and easy to clean. Great for shower use, combing through conditioner removes all tangles and shampoo massaging will clean the scalp. Its' open cushion concept eliminates bacteria or product build up in the shower. The Flexy Brush has flexible multi dimensional silicone bristles for sensitive scalps & stubborn knots. The Flexy brush exfoliates the scalp while detangling, stimulates blood circulation and minimizes hair loss. Can be used on wigs, extensions and blow-dry styling."

Me: I usually don't use anything besides my fingers to detangle my hair to be honest. However I used this to distribute conditioner evenly through my wet hair and also tried it right before styling just to see how it clumped my curls. I did like it with the conditioner but used before styling products I actually think my curl pattern was less defined as usual. If you are someone who's hair gets tangled very easily though, this is a good brush to help detangle.

All of the styling products in this line have the same, light, clean, powdery floral scent to them. It is not an overwhelming fragrance and also does not linger.

Leave-In Conditioner
Them: "Curl Keeper® Leave-in Conditioner smoothes the rough cuticles that are responsible for frizzy flyaway hair. Curl Conditioner is non-greasy curly hair product that never builds up, so you can use a generous amount against high humidity and high heat appliances such as irons & blow-dryers. The curl conditioner leaves your hair feeling clean, shiny and soft."

Me: This is a very lightweight leave-in. It feels so silky and slippery. For my high porosity, super dry hair, it is a bit too light for me to use on wet hair. Even applying the product heavy handed on wet hair it is still a bit too light. I do however like it on day 2 or day 3 to add moisture back into my hair without weighing my hair down. If you have fine hair that does get weighed down easily, I think you'd love this.

Original
Them: "Curl Keeper® Original enables you to become the master of those gorgeous frizz-free curls. Dryness causes out-of-control and frizzy hair. Curl Keeper contains the highest quality ingredients, provides frizz control and curl definition. Hanging your head over while bending forward helps to dry the roots and gives the curls more bounce. Curl Keeper Original is a water-based formula, which means you can use it every day without product buildup. Your curly hairstyle will last for days as its unique formula re-activates with water making Curl Keeper Original is 100% effective in all weather conditions, especially humidity."

Me: I honestly forgot how much I love the addition of this product on my wet hair. It plays nice with other products from the line as well as other brands, too. On wet hair, I apply it after leave in but before gel and use a very generous amount since my hair is so dry and frizzy. This liquidy serum does such an excellent job helping to tame frizz without adding any additional weight or producty feel to my hair. I really, really, really like this.

Gel
Them: "Curl Keeper Gel with panthenol gives ultimate holding power without flakiness or crispiness. A water-based formula, Curl Keeper Gel leaves no product buildup and supports any curly hairstyle for longer. Great for scrunching curly hair, styling with brushes, blow-drying or drying naturally."

Me: This gel does not dry stiff or crunchy at all. It says Ultimate Hold but I think it is more light to medium hold at best. I wish it had a bit more hold than it does, as my hair prefers a very strong hold gel. Unfortunately I just don't love this gel on wet hair. Frizz still comes through and I know my curls have more potential. I do also like this on day 2 or 3 hair, especially if I am wearing my hair back because I think it does a better job fighting frizz on days old hair then when I use it on wet hair.

Slip 30 Second Detangler
Them: "Curl Keeper® Slip™ Detangler is a silicone free detangling leave-in conditioner that will instantly loosen hair knots, lock in hair colour and eliminate flyaway hair. The conditioning ingredients of the curls detangler will leave your hair soft, smooth and shiny without ever over-moisturizing the hair. Slip™ has the strength to adjust the pH balance of your hair to give you strong healthy hair without adding any weight."

Me: This is a refreshing mist. It has the same consistency of water. I like this spray to revive the definition and bounce in curls on days 2 or 3, but it is very lightweight so I must follow it with someone heavier to help frizz and add some weight to my hair. I like this mist, it is probably my second favorite styler after the Original Serum.

Note: I apologize for the lighting in these photos. They were taken when it was dark, out, my ring light broke so I had to figure out a different light to work decently until I get a replacement.

Day 1 Hair

Here is what I used:
  • Cleanser: Raw Curls Curly Cleanser
  • Conditioner: DevaCurl Heaven In Hair
  • Stylers: Curl Keeper Leave-In, Original, Gel, Argan Oil
I applied the products with my hair flipped upside down one by one after using the Flexy Brush to detangle. I then scrunched a lot and air dried.

My hair felt extremely lightweight and very soft. It had excellent shine which is one of the biggest call out features for my with these products. I love the shine. My hair was still a bit frizzy when using all of the products together, I think because they didn't have enough weight for my frizzy, dry, high porosity hair. When I've used the products mixed in with other favorite brands I've had much better results. I also think brushing my wet hair played a factor in this frizz and lack of definition.

DAY 2

This is day 2 hair where I used the Slip followed by a little of the Leave-In Conditioner. I actually liked my day 2 hair better than day 1. Though my waves were looser, they were also less frizzy and my hair still felt so soft.

As mentioned earlier, I want to give these products a try again when it is more humid out and not so dry since the ingredients in this line are designed to help combat humidity! Stay tuned Summer 2018 for an updated revisit review.
