Obia Naturals Review and Discount

Obia Naturals is a brand I was pretty unfamiliar with until I received these products! Once I researched them and saw they won some NaturallyCurly awards, I knew they had to be good. Then once I tried them myself that thought was confirmed! There are some hits and misses for me with this brand. Read on for my thoughts and review, plus a discount!

What is cool about Obia Naturals is the line was created by Obia, who is a trained chemist!

Per their website, "all of the products do not contain any toxins or carcinogens. Not only is the entire OBIA Naturals line of products vegan, our products also do not contain: mineral oil, sulfates, petroleum, artificial colors, drying alcohols, silicone, or gluten. All preservatives used are free from parabens and formaldehyde, and our fragrances are pthalate free. OBIA Naturals promotes recycling and our products are cruelty-free. We are a proud partner of the "Campaign for Safe Cosmetics"."

A little more information about the brand from their website:
"Natural Ingredients for Natural Products" is the focus of OBIA Naturals. The mission of OBIA Naturals is to produce pH balanced, non-toxic, herbal-based natural hair and body care products for women and men. Our eco-friendly line of hair care products work in all hair textures and this is attributed to the fact that our products are science-based. The products are pH balanced for naturally curly hair, but they also work in transitioning and/or relaxed hair textures."

For both shampoo bars, I rubbed the bar between my wet hands to product a lather and then applied the lather to my head and massage it in with the pads of my fingers.

THEM: "This invigorating shampoo soothes dry scalp and helps remove unwanted buildup. Neem Oil and Tea Tree Oil are excellent astringents that will leave your scalp refreshed. Our sulfate-free shampoo will gently cleanse without stripping your hair and scalp of its natural oils."

ME: This shampoo bar smells so good! Fresh and fruity! I love that there are many hair growth ingredients inside including Neem, Tea Tree Oil and Rosemary Oil. It did a nice job are leaving my hair feeling clean and soft without feeling to stripped! Of the two shampoo bars, this one left my hair feeling a bit more cleansed.

THEM: "This intensely moisturizing shampoo will leave your hair soft, conditioned, and hydrated. Shea Butter deeply moisturizes hair and scalp, while Coconut Oil protects hair from heat and chemical damage. Our sulfate-free shampoo will gently cleanse without stripping your hair and scalp of its natural oils."

ME: This shampoo bar is more of a co-wash bar. It left my hair clean and feeling so very soft. I don't love the scent of this one, it is a mix of herbs and coconut which personally is not my thing.

THEM: "Immerse your curls and kinks in this deeply penetrating, fortifying protein-free treatment that repairs and reconstructs all hair textures and hair types. Strand-strengthening Babassu oil will nourish, repair elasticity, soften and add shine to your hair. Our moisturizing blend of Avocado Oil, Rosemary Essential Oil and Panthenol will repair damage and hydrate your hair."

ME: The deep conditioner is good. It is nice, creamy and thick. I was concerned it was protein free since I have high porosity hair that loves protein, but it worked so well. My hair was left moisturized, soft, tangle free and each time I use this, my curls have such nice bounce and shine. It's a great choice for hydration, especially in colder, dryer winter months. One thing that I didn't understand was why Aloe was towards the end of the ingredient list when it was usually near the top, but that was not a deal breaker. Scent wise, it smells creamy with lighter herbs. Not my favorite smell, but not terrible.

THEM: "Detangle with ease and condition your hair with moisturizing Babassu Oil, Avocado Oil and Rosemary Essential Oil. Strand-strengthening Babassu Oil will nourish, repair elasticity, soften and add shine to your hair. Avocado Oil, Rosemary Essential Oil and Panthenol will repair damage and moisturize your hair."

ME: This smells just like the deep conditioner. Also like the deep conditioner, it is protein free. For a rinse out conditioner, this one is nice and thick. I usually prefer deep conditioners every wash instead of regular conditioners since my hair is oh so dry, but this one is moisturizing enough for me! This conditioner does a fantastic job helping to detangle. Truthfully, I could not tell the difference performance wise between this and the deep conditioner. It has some weight to it which helped control unwanted pouf, left my hair soft and I also noticed significant shine.

THEM: "This pH balanced leave-in conditioner is full of luxurious oils that seal in moisture and minimize frizz by smoothing and closing the cuticle. Antioxidant rich Argan Oil, Burdock Root and Grape seed Oil strengthens and adds shine. Our lightweight, moisturizing cream will not weigh down your hair."

ME: I used this on wet hair as a leave-in before other stylers and also on dry day 2 or 3 hair to add moisture back in. It works well for me both ways. The cream has a nice light, powdery fragrance to it. On wet hair as a leave in, I was pleasantly surprised with how it moisturized extremely well but was very lightweight and left my curls bouncy. I also really like the moisture and frizz control it adds back to my days old hair that I slept on and worked out with. A wonderful product and one of my favorites in this line.

THEM: "Style your hair with this oil enriched, alcohol-free and lightweight custard. This pH-balanced formula is packed with antioxidant rich Argan Oil, Olive Oil and Grape seed Oil that will leave your hair soft, shiny and deeply moisturized. Perfect of wash n’ go’s, up-do’s, finger coils and smoothing edges. Safe for use on color treated hair."

ME: This custard has a fruity scent to it which I enjoy. I was hoping this would be a good gel for wet hair for me but sadly it was not enough hold. See pictures below for proof. My hair started off looking okay but fell limp and got frizzy. Unfortunately however, my day 2 hair didn't hold up at all when I used this on wet hair. I do like it on day 2 or 3 hair after using a different gel on day 1 to reencourage curl formation and help frizz.

THEM: "This thick, hydrating formulation will leave super dry, coarse hair soft and moisturized. Sweet Almond oil is rich in nourishing vitamins to promote healthy hair. Aloe vera and essential oils form a protective barrier for the hair and scalp."

ME: This product had so much promise and I was excited to try it. Sadly, I could not get past the scent. It is strong, herbal and started giving my a headache so I didn't even put it in my hair. I'll be passing this one on.

THEM: "Our one of a kind water-based, pH balanced hair butter is a triple treat of unrefined Shea Butter, Tucuma Butter and Mango Butter. Twist Whip Butter is formulated to intensely moisturize, seal, add shine and protect your hair. Packed with the essential oils of Lemongrass and Lavender to keep your strengthened strands soft. Ideal for parched, dry hair."

ME: This smells like lemongrass, not too bad. This butter is very thick which is great especially for the dry weather we are in now. I used it on day 2 hair and day 3 hair to add moisture back into my hair and it did a great job. My curls felt soft and not producty. It did weigh my hair down slightly, but I liked that!

THEM: "Moisturize, hydrate and refresh your hair and scalp with natural ingredients like Argan Oil and Rose Oil. This pH balanced formula conditions, adds shine and detangles hair without leaving buildup or residue. Can be used daily."

ME: My absolute favorite scented product of this whole line! It smells like fresh roses! This Curl Hydration Spray is being added to my favorite refresh sprays collection because it is so good! It reshaped my curls when they got wonky post workout, added shine back and controlled frizz. It is extremely lightweight, so I do like to use a cream on my drier areas, but it does a nice job adding back in lightweight moisture.

What I really like about all of the Obia Naturals stylers I tried was no matter how thick they were, or how much I used, my hair never felt overly producty or waxy and they all rinsed out easily. The moisturization properties of this brand as a whole is excellent and I really think there is a styler for any kind of texture, curl type and density.

DAY 1 HAIR- mixed
I used some Obia Naturals for this wash with other stylers:
  • Cleanser: Neem Tea Tree Shampoo Bar
  • Conditioner: Babassu Deep Conditioner. Left in half hour and then rinsed.
  • Stylers: Curl Moisture Cream, DevaCurl ArchAngel Gel, Pure Argan Oil
I applied the stylers the same way I have been doing after showering. See video here. I then air dried.

DAY 1 HAIR - mostly Obia Naturals
I used mostly Obia Naturals for this wash
  • Cleanser: Neem Tea Tree Shampoo Bar
  • Conditioner: Babassu Deep Conditioner. Left in half hour and then rinsed.
  • Stylers: Curl Moisture Cream, Curl Enhancing, Pure Argan Oil
I applied stylers the same way in the shower as the other Day 1 and air dried.

At first I liked how my hair came out, it felt soft and was nicely defined. There was some more frizz than usual but I didn't think too much of it. Wasn't my best hair, but I also didn't think it was bad.

However, I went out of the house to food shop and when I got back, my hair took a turn for the worse:
ignore the zit cream on my forehead)
It was frizzier and my curls fell limp. Day 2 was even worse. So although I do like mixing and matching some Obia Naturals products, I can't use them all together and the Custard is not a strong enough hold gel for me on wet hair.

This was a Day 3 hair that survived two sleeps and workouts. Aside from using dry shampoo on my scalp, I split my hair in two big sections, applied Curl Hydration Spray all over and added in a little Curl Moisture Cream in the front hairline section and ends where my hair is extra dry and frizzy.
