Mix Easy Customized Shampoo and Conditioner and Discount Code!

Mix Easy Natural Cosmetics Laboratory makes custom beauty products including shampoo, conditioner, facial cleansers and moisturizers with up to six ingredients you get to personalize. I've seen a few companies offer this in the past year and have been dying to try one out so I was THRILLED when Mix Easy contacted me. I'm all about personalization and when I learned that this company is cruelty free, natural, and free of sulfates, silicones, parabens, harsh chemicals and toxins, I was super excited to try! Read on for my thoughts and a discount code!

I got to make my own Face Cream, Shampoo and Conditioner. My Face Cream review will come at a later time. Today is all about the Shampoo and Conditioner!

BASE
Mix Easy customizes their products based on a questionnaire. For the base of the shampoo and conditioner, you select between "oily", "normal/colored" or "dry". Of course I selected "dry" for both since my hair is beyond dry, frizzy and high porosity.

INGREDIENTS
From there, you pick six ingredients from natural extracts, bio actives and oils. When you highlight each ingredient, it explains what benefits they have. This part was actually more difficult for me than I thought it would be since there are so many issues with my hair I want to address.

The following are what I selected. My main goals are fighting frizz, hair growth and length retention. For the curlies out there, there were ingredients that also can help with curl definition, too. Again, it was really hard for me to decide, I think I would have paid extra to put even more extracts inside! Some of the ingredients in my Shampoo and Conditioner did overlap.

SHAMPOO
  • Hyaluronic Acid- Plump and Hydrate. Helps repairs the hair's core and creates a nourishing outer layer.
  • Magnolia Lily Flower Extract- Anti-frizz. Improves the cohesion of scales and bolsters follicles.
  • Blackcurrant Extract- Promote hair growth. Provides full nutrition of the hair from the tips to the roots, restores them and promotes active growth.
  • Green Coffee Extract- Lengthen. Powerfully penetrative extract known for its ability to improve blood circulation in skin tissue and helps make your hair grow faster, thick and long.
  • Amino Acids- Activate Shine. Helps to repair the porous cuticle layer which causes dullness.
  • Linden Tree Extract- Improve Texture. Improve texture with nature’s conditioner extract.

CONDITIONER
  • Silk Protein- Treat Split Ends. Nature's alternative to silicones "silk protein" helps seal the hair cuticle and counteract the ‘roughness’ that contributes to tangles and makes hair looking dull.
  • Blackcurrant Extract- Promote hair growth. Provides full nutrition of the hair from the tips to the roots, restores them and promotes active growth.
  • Magnolia Lily Flower Extract- Anti-frizz. Improves the cohesion of scales and bolsters follicles.
  • Linden Tree Extract- Improve Texture. Improve texture with nature’s conditioner extract.
  • Sea Buckthorn Extract- Anti-pollution. Serve as antioxidants, curbing free radical damage.
  • Echinacea Extract- Revitalize. Restore hydration, shine, and strength for your weak and damaged hair.

SCENT
Scent is so personal and so important. For all of my sensitive noses out there, you will be thrilled to learn that Mix Easy offers a fragrance free option! Other than that, there was a choice of "Sunlight Dance" which I believe is citrus based on the picture of the orange behind it, "Bamboo and Cucumber" which I assume would smell fresh and spa like and finally the one I went with for both my products, "Milk and Honey" The scent is quite strong, but I do like it. "Milk and Honey" is a bit sweet, but not overly so.

After scent, they asked me to nickname my bottle. I thought perhaps my name would have been printed on the bottles, but it wasn't. The bottles are super colorful and very pretty. I like that the patterns are different on the Shampoo and Conditioner so I can tell them apart very easily in the shower.

PERFORMANCE
So all this customization and scents and everything is all fun, but how do the products perform? I was actually quite impressed!

For being sulfate free, the shampoo lathered a bit but the lather itself even felt so silky. The texture was thicker than I expected, and I found getting the product to lather in my hands first before applying on my scalp made it easier. It did a nice job cleaning my hair. Only a little bit is needed for a nice, thorough cleansing. When I rinsed, my hair felt clean, very slightly squeaky but not stiff or too bad. I absolutely had to follow with conditioner, but this is not a co-wash and doesn't claim to be so no big deal.

The conditioner is nice and rich. I've only used it as a leave in, since I use a treatment mask every wash. The slip was great and it also helped to detangle. I like it a lot as a leave in. My hair felt soft, had just the right amount of weight I like in a leave in to fight pouf and it has been playing well with many different styling products from different brands I've used over it. I wouldn't say a little goes a long way, but I also didn't need a whole lot crazy amount. If you are familiar with me, you may know I am very heavy handed and my thirsty locks enjoy drinking up a ton of conditioner.

These are the results using the shampoo, one of my favorite masks, the conditioner as a leave in and my holy grail oil blend and gel. This is air dried.

DISCOUNT CODE
Mix Easy provided me with a nice discount code for you guys! I don't make a penny off it, but sharing and helping you save money is always a great thing, so enjoy if you wish! Use code ADORE for 20% off any order on mixeasy.com.

Truthfully, for customized products I think they are priced so fairly. They are on par with other prestige brands, offer free shipping at $45 and with the 20% off code they're even less expensive.

Overall, I really like the idea behind Mix Easy and selecting my favorite ingredients to target my personal needs. I would definitely repurchase both the shampoo and conditioner so far.
I have a strict rule with myself I am not testing new skincare until after my wedding in September. I will begin using the face cream then and report back!
